The Doula Dad program creates partners and dads who step up during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with calm, grounded, and confident leadership. The program empowers them to take the lead for their family in an environment where many men don’t feel comfortable or confident to do so. This page outlines the leadership standard that is embodied by a Doula Dad and what sets them apart from the norm.
The transformation this program creates is based on my own journey of becoming a father through the birth of my two children. It is my absolute privilege and pleasure to support you in becoming a Doula Dad for the betterment of your partner, your family, and, most importantly, you as a man. The experience was absolutely life-changing for me, and I am honoured to support you through your own life-changing journey.
The following leadership qualities are what define a Doula Dad and set them apart from the norm.
A Doula Dad understands his emotions, what triggers them, and has a range of tools to regulate them. When he is triggered, he can regulate his emotions before reacting. He speaks from a place of calm, reason, and compassion.
A Doula Dad maintains agency by asking questions of those supporting his partner and baby to ensure any decisions are informed and consent-based. He knows his partner’s preferences and can uphold her values with the decisions he makes on her behalf. He advocates for his partner and baby confidently, regardless of who he is speaking with.
A Doula Dad is someone his partner knows she can rely on in any circumstances. He makes his partner feel safe and secure in any environment, and he knows how to protect her oxytocin levels.
A Doula Dad leads from a place of love, support and unity with his partner and family. He shares the mental load and recognises what type of support he needs to provide in different moments.
The Doula Dad approach to leadership has far-reaching impacts that last well beyond the early days of creating a family. Men who embody the Doula Dad leadership standard create extremely strong, resilient, and grounded relationships with their partner. They become great fathers who grow secure, confident children. They are the unshakable foundation that carries the well-being of their family on their shoulders. This impact changes their relationships and family dynamics for a lifetime.
